Winning Poker

Focus on Annie Duke

Mrs. Duke might not have won her first WSOP Bracelet until 2004 but she is one of the most feared poker players around the cash games at The Bellagio in vegas. Annie’s longawaited WSOP bracelet came with a win at the "cast aside game" of Omaha hi/lo.

While players from the "younger generation" of poker go wild following a large win at the tables, Annie heads back home and becomes "mom" to her 4 children. She grew up in New Hampshire and raised into a family of card competitors. If you don’t believe that, watch her brother, Howard Lederer, in action who educated her how to wager on the game.

However, Mrs. Duke is no small fry kind of girl and has succeeded at her share of challenging tables, which includes eliminating Howard along the way on several occasions. They are both competitors that have the ability to acquire the huge cash and do so with a smile.

Mrs. Duke is a strong competitor at any table considering that she is a true poker player, but it’s a little more than just being great at the game. Annie Duke is extremely intelligent and graduated from Columbia U where she double majored in English and Psychology.

When you are seated across from Annie at the poker table you will see she is there to play the game and she begins "summing" you up from the time you sit down at the table. If you can not play like a camp, then don’t bother.

Earning over $3 million in tournament competitions, Mrs. Duke branched out to become a adviser to both the UltimateBet website and actor Ben Affleck, who was looking to sharpen his techniques and become a power at the tables.

You may catch a glimpse of her at the Bellagio, you will observe her on the tv and you may even play against her in a web poker match, but don’t count on a simple win. Except of course you are a champion-in-the-making, you’ll not defeat her. However, it would be fun to mention you sat at the same table as "The Duke".
