Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he loved gambling on numerous card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really aggressive in these card games while competing against his father. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a bit and moved to New York to participate in some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were difficult as he played extensive hours and lost most times. He made some extra money by being an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he could improve his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more rest and concentrate even more on poker.
The real advancement in his game began when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would regularly wager against one another. He had access into several of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would hone his logical thinking abilities. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.
Howard also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the greatest women players the poker arena ever. He headed to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the following 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard decided to participate in more tournaments.
