Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he liked playing different card games when he was young. He found himself getting very competitive in these particular card games while playing his father. After finishing secondary school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little while and moved to New York City to compete in some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were rough as he would play many hours and lose most times. He made some additional money by becoming an runner for the poker players. He judged he possibly could better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an effort to get more rest and focus more on the game.

The definite advancement in his abilities began when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would frequently play against one another. He had access into some of the foremost players in chess. He also helped his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was an excellent student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. He told Annie to move out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. She is one of the strongest female players the poker world has ever seen. He headed to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in money games for the next 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
