Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he loved betting on various card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very competitive in these card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a bit and moved away to New York to participate in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were rough as he played countless hours and fail to win most times. He earned some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he might better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more rest and focus even more on the game.
The real improvement in his skills began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would regularly play against one another. Howard had access into several of the foremost minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would sharpen his cunning thinking techniques. Howard applied these strategic concepts to the game of NL holdem.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the strongest female players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard Lederer moved to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the successive decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to play more tournaments.
