No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
