Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
