Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the last table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest players around the world. While participating in internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amt.. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash rounds?
